The Digital Sign Dictionary is a Success

How do you say happy in sign language? Or upset? Good morning? And what about merry Christmas?

For hearing people it can be a great challenge communicating with deaf people - and for deaf people it can be difficult explaining the ways of sign language to hearing people.

When the digital dictionary was launched back in May 2008 it was a historic milestone regarding both researching into and promotion of sign language.

The digital dictionary became a reality due to grants given to DDL by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Danish Labour Market Association. DDL runs the project in collaboration with Center for Tegnsprog (the Sign Language Centre) and Tegnstøttet Kommunikation (Sign Supported Communication).

The dictionary holds app 2.000 signs and altogether these signs have 3.000 meanings that are all shown in the video.
