Fighting for the Right of Using an Interpreter

DDL leads a daily fight on behalf of deaf people regarding their rights to have an interpreter whenever needed.

Compared to the hearing world deaf people have a communication disability on an everyday basis.

A deaf person hardly benefits from watching TV, normal conversations, speeches, consulting a GP, the educational system or the working life if it is all based on the terms of hearing people.

Furthermore it is difficult communicating in equal terms with hearing people as they do not know sign language and deaf people do not speak with sounds but with signs.

Interpretation therefore is an essential link between the worlds of the deaf and the hearing and a must for any successful communication.

Deaf People in Need of Interpreters
DDL leads a daily fight on behalf of deaf people regarding their rights to have an interpreter whenever needed but unfortunately in many situations this is not the case like for instance when qualifying for a driving license, having a job interview, attending meetings in kindergarten/schools etc, acute interpretation in hospitals as well as private educations.

Each day DDL secretaries are being faced with these issues when members call the association telling their stories.
